J.A has written a very creepy, darkly folkloric YA horror-fantasy about a girl struggling to keep her family together in a seaside village full of people transformed into magical, monstrous folk of which her father might be the worst. This book is enchanting and horrifying, with its gorgeously atmospheric setting, practical and gruesome magic, and a heroine forced to be responsible for her entire family in a town in which they are always at risk.
Raised in the wilds of Tasmania, J.A. Haigh’s writing is full of magic and myth. Her short speculative works can be found in such places as Midnight Echo, Kill Your Darlings, Aurealis, Andromeda Spaceways, and Syntax & Salt. In 2021, she received a mentorship from the Australasian Horror Writers Association. J.A. currently lives in Newcastle, Australia, with her two delightful children and their witty father. A chef by trade, she is always hard at work on her next dark fantasy novel; busily crafting stories of gritty magic, flavoured with atmospheric horror.
