I’m getting an early start on the spirit of the season, and wanted to invite you to join me! A family friend is currently teaching in the South Bronx, in an area of predominantly low income families, but she’s lucky enough to have some very avid readers in her class. Kai hasn’t been teaching there all that long, and she’s still building her classroom library, so I’m happy to be sending her a selection of great KT literary young adult and middle grade titles.
Maybe you’ve got a few extra books sitting around, looking for a new home. Maybe your bookshelves are overflowing, and you’ve got to cull their numbers or start finding ways to eat, sleep, and sit on books. Maybe you got a box of author copies of your new release, and you’re not sure what to do with all those copies of your book, especially when you want your friends and family to actually go BUY it.
If that’s you, and you can spare anything, please consider sending Kai and her classroom a book. Or two, or three, or twenty.
Think of it as an opportunity to put diverse books in diverse hands, to allow young readers to maybe, for the first time, see themselves reflected in the pages they’re reading, or open a window to new worlds, and new experiences.
