The first romance novel I read was SWEET RELEASE by Pamela Clare. Pamela is a good friend and when this very first book of hers was published she hand-delivered a copy to me. That was in 2004 when I was uber-pregnant with my son. I remember balancing her book on my huge belly, reading late into the night and smiling the whole time. Every since then I’ve been a proud and voracious lover of romance novels.
As an agent, I represent romance novels and would love to see more romance submissions! I bring this up because Kate and Renee at KT Literary specialize in middle grade and young adult novels and they are both brilliant (read: BRILLIANT) in these genres. Until now, though, KT Literary hasn’t worked in the romance field and I’d like to get the word out – we do now!
My romance authors include Roni Loren, Tiffany Reisz, Ashlyn Macnamara, Christina Lee, Jane Kindred and Eleri Stone. I love humor and heat in my romance novels and am open to submissions in all sub-genres except inspirational (yes, I will consider books that are single title AND shorter). I’m a member of Romance Writers of America (RWA) and will be speaking at the WisRWA Write Touch Conference in Milwaukee, WI April 24-26 and the San Diego RWA chapter meeting on June 20.
Please note – if you are a member of RWA, please include this information in your query letter! As always, please send a query letter and the first 3 pages of your manuscript to saraquery@ktliterary.com and expect a 2-8 day turn around on those queries. Kate and Renee will continue to represent middle grade and young adult. If you have a completed romance novel, though, and are looking for an agent – please consider me!
Cheers,
Sara

Sara, What exactly do you mean by “debut authors?” I have both a fantasy novel (primarily for new adult and older) and a two-volume novel also primarily for new adult that I would like you to consider. The fantasy novel was accepted for publication by a Canadian publisher, but I declined because the contract was really poor from an author’s POV.
I have publishing credits in an on-line magazine and stories in three speculative fiction anthologies, and I have a fantasy novel due to be published by Double Dragon Press this summer. Does that disqualify me?
Thanks for your response.

Thanks Fred – I mean even if you’ve never published a book before, don’t be afraid to query me! No, your publishing credits don’t disqualify you at all. If you had accepted the publishing contract with the Canadian publisher for the fantasy novel, then I likely wouldn’t be interested in trying to re-sell it. But, it sounds like you are free and clear there.
