Ask Daphne! About Closing for the Holidays

Katherine emailed the other day:

Hi there,

If the world ends on December 21st, it will be the cruelest joke ever. That’s the last day of school before winter break. As much as I love teaching kiddos, I want my vacation. I’d also like to wrap up edits to my manuscript and finish polishing my query letter.

Do you want a vacation? Are you going to close to queries for the holidays as you have in the past? Since I’m not quite ready yet, am I going to have to wait until 2013 to send you my latest project?

I hope the Mayans were wrong. Otherwise, you may never get to see my query. 🙂

Merry (early) Christmas!

As a matter of fact, I am! From Saturday, December 22nd through Sunday, January 6th, so just two weeks in total. Any queries received during this time will be automatically deleted without being read, and you will not receive an automatic notification of receipt.

I’m pretty close to caught up on queries right now, with just a few in my “To Look At More Closely” file, and less than 10 in my general query folder. I hope to update this later today with an “All Caught Up!” notice. Watch this space ——> UPDATE: As of 4:42 pm Mountain time on 12/19/12, I have responded to all queries. If you did not receive a response, please requery after January 6th.

So what will I be doing with my two weeks off? Reading for fun! My bookclub pick for this month is The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey, and I’ve got a towering stack of YA novels to get caught up on. I can’t wait!
