As I may have hinted once or twice (or three million times) in the last few days, I’m heading out on a beach vacation tomorrow. As usual, I have my Kindle stocked with books and manuscripts, but there’s always that time on a airplane when all electronic devices must be turned off, and I can’t just SIT there, can I? (Hush you that think I should talk to my seatmates/traveling companions!) So I’ve decided I need two hard copy, dead-tree form books.
But which ones to pick? There are SO MANY great choices!
Well, I’m turning to the powers of the internet to help me decide. I’m posting a list of my top six, in three categories, and ask you to help me decide on the final two. It’s like Design Star, but with fewer trips to the emergency room and mental breakdowns. Ready for our contenders?
In the category of Embarrassing Omissions (Classic/Award-winning): Howl’s Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones or Going Bovine by Libba Bray.
Int he category of Recent and Soon-To-Be Big Releases: Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan or Matched by Ally Condie.
And our final category, Read ‘Em Before Book Two comes out: Rampant by Diana Peterfreund or Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld.
So, what will it be? Remember, I’m only bringing TWO! To the polls, but feel free to add your reasons behind your choice(s) in the comments! And vote quickly, please — I have to finish packing tonight!

I voted for Bovine and Leviathan because they're the two I've read (and I very much enjoyed them), but from what I've heard about the rest of this list, I don't think you can go wrong no matter WHICH you pick.
I voted for Bovine, which sprained my reality in a good way, and Matched, which makes me gnash my teeth in envy. I want a copy so. very. bad.
Enjoy the trip!
I voted Will Grayson, Will Grayson but Howl's moving castle was my second choice. Fantastic choices all the way around, no wonder you can't decide!
Lol, your readers are nerdfighters. Must be something to do with Maureen. 🙂
I (being one of them) voted for WGWG and Going Bovine, even though I haven't read the latter. Leviathan is very good too, though.
Carrie — I have a copy of Matched I can send you soon! (I'm halfway through.) I'll email you.
My votes: Will Grayson, Will Grayson—sure you could have guessed!—and Howl's. Though Matched is excellent so far, and Ally Condie is a total sweetheart.
Okay, because of this quote, “Tired of Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Try Astrid the unicorn hunter.”-Locus
I have to vote for Rampant. Not that you could ever be tired of Buffy – just sayin.' 😉
Loved LEVIATHAN. The beginning is a little slow, but how can you not be hooked by a book with genetically engineered flying sperm whales?
Have fun on your trip!
Will Grayson, Will Grayson because you simply must read it! & who wouldn't want to be sitting on an airplane with John Green & David Levithan? Right? Right!
I wish I could vote for Will Grayson, Will Grayson twice. TINY COOPER. Just do it.
would've helped if I'd spelled my name properly (duh… #contactfail )
No worries, Julia, I fixed it. I have the power of editing!! Mwahahahahaha!
Howl's Moving Castle! (Because then you can pick up Castle in the Air and House of Many Ways for even more delightful adventures!)
I also voted for Leviathan because it's one of the only books my husband has read before I've gotten to it. He can't WAIT for Behemoth — and he's not a big reader, he's a big gamer. I can't wait to read it myself!
I voted for Howl's Moving Castle, Leviathan, and Will Graysonx2 because those would be good for the beach. Going Bovine is a mind trip that, for me, doesn't match the beach.
I feel bad that Rampant is losing because it's such a wonderful book too. Are you sure you can only take 2?
No worries, Lindsay! I'm still going to read all of them, just not in the next week.
And the winners are… Will Grayson and Leviathan! Thanks to everyone who voted.
