Rexroth, Trixie, and I are headed north this weekend to spend a week in snowy South Dakota with the Implausible clan. And, like the comic says, I am planning what I’ll bring with me. Presents, of course, and clothes and boring stuff, but also: BOOKS! Which books, you ask? Here’s my lists, not to be considered comprehensive:
- From the library
- Bitten & Smitten by Michelle Rowen
- The Off Season by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
- Mimus by Lilli Thal
- Exposed: Confessons of a Wedding Photographer by Claire Lewis
- Wit’s End by Karen Joy Fowler
- Moscow Rules by Daniel Silva
- The Book of Lies by Brad Meltzer
- From my personal collection
- The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
- Nation by Terry Pratchett
- The Eight and The Fire by Katherine Neville
- East by Edith Pattou
- The Rough Guide to Italy
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer: No Future For You by Brian K. Vaughan, Georges Jeanty and Joss Whedon
- On my Kindle
- Little Brother by Cory Doctorow
- The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
- and any manuscript requests I haven’t gotten to in the next three days
It’s not like there won’t be holiday festivities to take part in, but I like to make sure my downtime is covered. Do you have any holiday reading plans?

I really need to pick up some books for the week I'll be on holiday. Sadly, now that I'll have a whole week to read, I can't quite think of what to pick up.
Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier is probably a sure bet since it's on my wish list and someone must have gotten it for me. I'll also probably bring The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett and a few of the YA novels I've been meaning to read before starting my next WiP.
I have in my pocket a $50 gift card to B&N I've been saving from my birthday. As long as it's in my pocket, I can read anything:)
Wow! That's some list! Right now I'm working on Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke. If I ever finish that I'm going to read something light and fun.
Ooh, I loved Mimus–library find, too. I should buy a copy…
De, you're actually the one who turned me on to Mimus! I look forward to comparing notes!
The Graveyard Book and Nation are SO good!
