Daphne gave to me an answer to Valerie’s pressing question:
I’ve just been introduced to your website and agency with high recommendations. However, in reviewing your submission guidelines it doesn’t appear that you take genre romance. Could you clarify for me?
That I can, Valerie! At this point, no, I don’t take genre or category romance. What I’m looking for is romantic comedy or more mainstream women’s fiction that stands out from genre romance. Something deeper.
Now, the fact is a lot of great women’s fiction writers — like two of my favorites Jennifer Crusie and Nora Roberts — came out of that genre romance tradition. And maybe I’ll change my mind in the future, and want to get into the genre game, but for now I’m looking for mainstream works.
