After watching the debate last night and catching up on Fringe (is anyone else watching that? What do we think about it?), I needed to do something that didn’t require too much deep thought, and allowed me to curl up in the armchair in Rexroth’s office under a handmade quilt. Tribute by Nora Roberts fit the bill perfectly. A little bit of mystery, a little bit of romance, some humor, and to really appeal to me: home renovations. Exactly what I was looking for. I always enjoy Roberts’ books, and think she’s got a really great way with secondary characters. In this one, my absolute favorite was the dog, Spock. Who has a little teddy bear he drops at the feet of the main character when she needs a pick me up. He was just too adorable, and completely realized.
Do any of your WIPs feature dogs or cats — or any animals? Are they pets, or are they characters?

My WIP has a hamster, but it's definitely a minor character – just a classroom pet.

I gave Fringe a shot, but one Abrams show at a time is plenty for me (I love LOST, and that's like keeping track of four shows at once).
My new WIP will feature horses. Which may be a problem, since I was never one of those little girls or teenagers obsessed with horses. However, it's nothing a little research and some interviews can't overcome!
I think I'm addicted to Fringe. I'm a former X-Phile, and I miss the weirdness. I'm not so keen on the gore factor, which seems a lot higher than X-Files was on most days, but otherwise? The doctor and his son crack me up. And Joshua Jackson is yummy.
Ahem.
Oh, and no animals in any of my books yet. I'm animal impaired, I guess.
I LOVE Fringe–but I tend to love weird shows LOL
There's a crazy cat in one of my books whose modeled after a cat that used to come "visit" us…and a dog in another. I think they make great characters!
I'm loving Fringe; btw, there's a great write-up on the show in in next week's TV Guide. Also being a former X-Files junkie, I'm enjoying a strange new mythos to get lost in (and no, I've never watched Lost).
Cats show up in several of my stories. I started a book a few years back about an incubus who was cursed to turn his lovers into cats. I recently dragged it out of the trunk and reread it, realizing that sometime, when I'm not knee-deep in final edits for my current WIP, I might take a stab at finishing it (if I can remember where I was going in it!). The MC was inspired by the Julian Sands character in the little-known film, Tale of a Vampire.
A dog in one. She (the dog) naturally adopts the hero 🙂 but avoids the no-good dates.
Another story has birds. And another story has a cat who has to get rescued from the town's big Oak tree at the most inopportune times.
Animals are fun. Oh and tropical fish in another.
I'm an animal lover, can you tell? There is a reason my husband has been known to refer to me as 'Snow White'.
In one of my WIPs, the MC has a Jack Russell Terrier foisted on her and he becomes a secondary character.
