The News Is Finally Out!!

December 11th, 2012 • Kate

From Entertainment Weekly’s Shelf Life blog:

Can’t get enough of Magnus Bane? Let the new short story cycle, THE BANE CHRONICLES, fill the void. Cassandra Clare will collaborate with YA authors Sarah Rees Brennan (Unspoken, Team Human) and Maureen Johnson (The Name of the Star, 13 Little Blue Envelopes) on the serialization which will be focus on Bane, the immortal warlock seen in Clare’s Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series.

Starting in February, one story in the cycle will be released every month in e-book format leading up to The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie (out Aug. 23). This will be followed by a single print edition in 2014.

With additional info from MTV’s Hollywood Crush blog:

As to what THE BANE CHRONICLES will cover, it sounds like a lot! Sarah took to Tumblr to shed a bit of light on the project:

“Have you ever wondered about Magnus’s past loves and lies? Magnus and Alec’s first date? How Magnus and Camille got together? What happened in Peru? Starting in February 2013, in the run-up to City of Handsome Magnus: the Movie (Also Starring Some Other People Who Are Pretty Good-Looking) we will put out a Magnus Short Story every month,” she wrote.

Just the thing to temper our eight-month wait until Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, and, of course, Godfrey Gao, charm us on the big screen!

And finally, from Publishers Weekly:

[Cassie’s agent] Galen said that Clare will be writing “one or two” of the stories, with Brennan and Johnson penning the others. The stories, released digitally, will be between 8,000 and 10,000 words, and priced at $2.99. Each story can be read individually or taken together to form a larger whole. As Galen explained, it is “the literary equivalent of an episodic TV show, as opposed to a miniseries like Game of Thrones.”

Woohoo! We’re all thrilled the news is finally out there, and we look forward to reading THE BANE CHRONICLES with all of you! I can only hope the covers look half as beautiful as this fan art from Tumblr.
