KT Literary Annual Retreat 2012

November 5th, 2012 • Kate

Sorry for the delay in posting this — between Halloween and Hurricane Sandy, last week was a strange one, though I used it to good effect to get almost all caught up on queries. In any case, I got back just over a week ago from our second annual KT Literary Client Retreat, which took place this year in Portland, OR. We were a small group this year, consisting of me, Susan Adrian, Elizabeth Briggs, Erin Danehy, Sara Beitia, and Rebecca Petruck.

Our retreat isn’t a writing retreat, per se, although I think some of the authors got some writing done. Instead, we used our time together to bond, compare submission stories, commiserate about waiting for responses, shop at Powell’s, and eat. Oh my god, the eating. So much deliciousness.

After one of many delicious meals

I love our retreats, and I’m so glad I took a cue from other agents like Barry Goldblatt and Erin Murphy to plan them. In fact, I’m already looking into places for next year. If anyone has some great ideas for places to stay in Austin, TX, let me know! And if you want to suggest a spot for a future retreat, throw it in the comments!

Fun times in Portland's Chinese Garden!

Charleston, SC is a beautiful spot for writing-related anythings. And if you come in November you can go to YAllFest and hang out with even more YA authors!
