I'm so sad--my husband watched the first half of the first episode of Glee with me, then had to go somewhere. I decided to be nice and wait for him so we could watch the rest together. Then, of course, the earlier episodes were taken down from Hulu! Now with so many of the episodes pulled, I don't want to just jump in and not know what's going on. So I'll have to wait for the DVDs. Moral of the story: Don't be nice.

My song (today) would be "American Tune" by Paul Simon. I also catch myself singing "I'll Fly Away" (the Alison Krauss/O Brother version) quite often, so--I guess that must be my theme, too! That sounds a bit sad, doesn't it? Off to find a happy song for self.

I think my theme song is "I'm a b*tch" by Meredith Brooks. Not for the obvious reasons. Her lyrics- "I'm a little bit of everything, all rolled into one" and "take me as I am, this may mean you'll have to be a stronger man" are me. Before getting married I made sure my husband knew he needed to take me as I am because I have a strong personality and would not change into a perfect wife.

Luckily for me he did. :)

One of the best compliments I ever received occurred when my boss told me I was "like that Cake song about the girl with the long jacket." It counts, even if he was drunk, right?

For my protagonist, though, I hear "Lady Picture Show" by Stone Temple Pilots before her goddesshood and Des'Ree's "You Gotta Be" afterwards.

I've always seen the song "My Skin" by Natalie Merchant as Yazoo's theme song. Every time I hear it, I see him. His life fits it so well I swear Natalie Merchant wrote it for him.

We've given a soundtrack to our YA novel, Newbie, by giving the chapter titles song names. However, many authors tell me we'll never get permission to use them in publication. For now though we've stuck with it and we've gotten a couple of requests for partials so we'll see.

Carrying the idea through the book, Jack tells us in Chapter One that he feels like there is a soundtrack to his life. When he first sees the girl of his dreams (or so he thinks) he hears She's So Lovely by Scouting for Girls playing in his head. When he is about to get expelled for his unwilling participation in a secret bootleg operation he hears Queen's Don't Stop Me Now. That would have to be Jack's anthem.
