I Hab a Cold

January 28th, 2009 • Kate

When I’m sneezing and achy and tired and coughing, it makes my head hurt to be at the computer all day, so I’m hoping to get some reading done instead. And besides the submissions I have to get to, there’s this whole wonderful list of YALSA’s best books for young adults, including Maureen Johnson‘s Suite Scarlett. Whee!
As I think I mentioned, I sat in on some of the discussions about this titles, and already ran out (when I was feeling better) and bought some of the other books they cited as good. Do I feel a little guilty about reading finished books when I have a lot of submissions and queries to get to? Sure. But if I’m not keeping up with what’s out there, what’s getting publishing, I’m not doing my job. (And yes, I can justify anything, thank you for asking.)
So what books on this list (or on the Top Ten list, if 86 titles is a bit too much for you) are on your need-to-read-SOON! list?

Don't worry, Kate. That's the beauty of being sick. You finally get to read novels for pleasure and not just for work.

The Hunger Games is at the top of my TBR pile.
And justifying anything is a necessary skill for an agent–I would imagine.

Nation and Ten Cents a Dance are definitely "to be read."
Feel better soon! And, justify away! :^D

Oh I'm so sorry you're sick! Not fun.
But thanks for sharing that list. I definitely would have to say Hunger Games and Nation.
