Let’s just be clear here, shall we? I work in publishing. i like WORDS. Numbers are, to put it bluntly, not my friend. And yet, I have this exciting new business, and though yes, I still get to play with words, I ALSO have to understand numbers. My authors like it when I do — when I can tell them what money is coming in from which publisher, and how soon. And to do THAT, I need accounting software to keep track of such things as payments due, etc.
Happy Columbus Day, all! It’s not much of a holiday in the publishing world, usually, but because this week is ALSO the Frankfurt Book Fair, it is a little quiet. I’ve been able to keep down my pile of queries, and I was able to get a ton of reading done this weekend, thanks to a cold front that kept me cuddled in an armchair almost all day on Saturday, slippers on, kindle in hand.
I spent all day reading queries and responding, but I can finally post and report that I am ALL CAUGHT UP! If you sent a query recently and did not receive a response, please check your spam filter, and if there’s nothing there from me, double-check that you didn’t submit to me previously. I try when I can to resend my previous response to repeated queries, but I can’t always do so.
Hard to believe it’s already the end of the day — and what a day it’s been! For all that I can sometimes spend a day reading queries without a single interruption aside from the dog’s bladder-relief needs, today was NOT one of those days! So what’s involved in a kt literary busy day? Well, I’ll tell you!
